Hey Guys,

Tried looking this up but couldn't find any info for DO threads (only found MD), anyone know of schools that are more MCAT-heavy? Obviously I know that your GPA must be reasonable, but anyone know of schools that put more emphasis on MCATs, EC's, LORs? Preferably around the east coast (NY resident - any chance at NYIT-COM?)

Asking this for my friend who has a c3.07 and s3.00 with 34 (well-balanced) on her MCAT and lots of good clinical EC's plus about 5 LOR's. She's wondering if she should apply this cycle or not.

Thanks!

NSU-COM and Touros (CA/NY) are some MCAT heavy schools. Regardless, be prepared to explain your grades.

Good luck.

I would say NSU is a holisitic. Why do you think they are MCAT heavy? Average is 28.

If I recall, there was a general consensus that NSU prefers a good MCAT score over GPA. And if NSU is holistic, it's all the better for this applicant since she has good clinical experience (whatever that means). 🙂

Yea I have heard this before but I don't believe its true. NSU is a great school but I think they look at the whole applicant. A great MCAT can help but its not a killer if the MCAT is only ok.

As per @Goro , the Touro and CCOM are notorious for being very stats focused. I believe CCOM had a 29 average for the 2013 matriculation. That's pretty high.

Thanks for the input guys! I will pass on the message. Any idea about a chance at NYITCOM (NY res)?
NYIT is a good DO school and I actually live very close to it. I think with a 3.0/34 this applicant stands a shot (spoken to alot of NYIT docs). There average is 3.6/28. Applying to a couple of lower stat DO school's isn't a bad idea with that GPA (VCOM for example). I would suspect with that MCAT though an acceptance from Touro NY and if not middletown.

Do you think it's worth a shot applying here? (3.6/26)

Depends if you want to go to NYIT. I think you have a shot at getting into NYIT.

Can people who already have their bachelor's still apply to the BS/DO program? I was under the impression that these types of programs are only for incoming freshman?

I applied as an incoming freshman. I know some schools you can do it while in college. If you are already have a bachelors why not just apply to the med school straight up at that point?

Yeah I got confused - I thought @emagavin was asking if their stats were competitive for the combined BS/DO program.

I need to go to bed... :lame:
