Hi! I'll be applying this upcoming cycle 2020-2021, and I'm in need of some help with refining my school list. The cost would be too expensive as it stands, and I would like to apply at schools I have a fairly good chance at.

cGPA: 3.88 sGPA: 3.93 (non-traditional/non-science major)
505 (125/127/125/128)
VA
female urm
Clinical experience: volunteer whose job is patient/family interaction projected to finish 170+ hours before application submission. Additional volunteering done in UK hospital while doing a study abroad internship 70 hrs (not sure how much this counts though)
Research: biology research 30+ hours (not published). Separate research with publication 25 hrs
Shadowing: 20 hours anesthesia, vascular surgeon. (in UK did 100 hours anesthesia, thoracic surgeon, radiology but again not sure if this counts)
Non-clinical volunteering: food kitchen cook 15 hrs, community volunteer with minority population 20 hrs, volunteer tennis coach 300+ hrs
Honors: quite a few academic honors, most notably phi beta kappa and the national hispanic honor society
Extracurriculars: customer service job while in undergrad, then promoted to manager totaling 800+ hrs

Below is my current school list (in no particular order). I'm in need of help with trimming this down to ideally 20-25 schools to be more affordable. Any advice would be great.

Side note: I'm open to anywhere except too far out West since I have no immediate family out there except in Colorado. I also have strong family ties to both Florida and Missouri, and I would like to maybe add more Florida schools due to sick family member.

Thank you!

Your in-state Virginia schools should invite you. USUHS only if you wanted to do military medicine. How much networking have you done with other students, especially SNMA and LMSA?

Your ECs are pretty lackluster but you have a very good GPA and an okay MCAT. You need stuff in the US not the UK. I wouldn’t apply to Rush. You are nowhere near their service requirements in any area. Your URM status will help you but try to improve your Spanish. Lots of schools on your list receive thousands of applications-like 10k+. So try to make your application as good as you can.

If you truly do have strong ties to Missouri, I would suggest adding the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine! It's hard to get in OOS, but strong ties play a strong role in generating an II.

I am both African American and Mexican. Not fluent.
I suggest these schools from your list:
1. EVMS
2. Virginia Commonwealth
3. Virginia Tech
4. Meharry
5. Howard
7. Morehouse
9. Uniformed Services University
10. Seton Hall
11. Loyola
12. West Virginia
14. Wayne State
15. Indiana University
17. Rush
19. Rosalind Franklin
20. Oakland Beaumont
21. Tulane
22. NOVA
23. George Washington
24. Drexel
25. Temple
26. Georgetown
29. St. Louis University
You could add UVA as a reach school.

If you keep with your clinical experiences you’ll have enough by application time. You do need some shadowing of a primary care doc. This is important. You only need around 50hours total so you have 20 so find a family med doc or pediatrician or gynecologist or interal med doc and shadow for a few days. Who did you work with as a volunteer tennis coach? Who did you cook for in the food kitchen? What did you do as a community volunteer? Any chance you can expand on this one or even the cooking one if it was in a soup kitchen or homeless shelter? I think you’ll be fine but you also want to give yourself the best possible chance.
