Hey everyone,

I am applying to medical school this cycle and am a non-science major. I have completed all of my pre-reqs for medical school (including biochemistry), so I am spending the last year in undergrad finishing up my degree. My pre-med advisor said it will look bad in interviews if I am not taking a science class in the fall and spring even though I am not a science major. Is that true? I don't want to have to add two more extra classes into my schedule unless it is absolutely necessary.

You've taken pre reqs..I see no reason why they would possibly care.

Why did your advisor tell you it would look bad?

Shouldn't be a problem since you have all the pre-reqs. Focus on preparing well for your interviews!

She said that if I didn't take science classes, it would look like I wasn't interested in medical school.

Not necessarily, you've already shown your interest by taking all pre-reqs, MCAT, and all the EC's you've done. I disagree.

If you've done prereqs, other essential ECs, and are applying, you're probably interested :poke:

Honestly if you're worried about it, just tell them what you told us. You wanted to finish your major because you enjoyed it. You'll learn plenty of science in medical school.

No one is gonna give a crap what you are currently taking during interviews lol.

Interviewer: *Adjusts glasses for focus* Yes, mhm. I see that you are currently taking a slew of classes that are not science related. Are you aware that u will b recked? I garentee it m8.

OP: *Checks SDN for appropriate response* Yes my premed advisor warned me about it and I am prepared to be recked.

Why do so many people have troubles with their pre-medical advisers in UG? It seems as if the majority of pre-med advisers simply don't know what they're talking about

I can tell you that I am a non-science major, and I hadn't even finished all my prereqs before I applied and I got 11 interviews total. Obviously this is only one example, but I think being non science even helped me, rather than hurt me

Thanks to all of you for your responses!

That is what I was thinking when she said that haha! But I figured I would ask y'all just to make sure it wasn't some sort of unwritten rule.
