Hello,

Do engineering classes count towards the Science GPA? I am a Chem E, and I am not sure if I should classify my engineering classes as science or non-science? Just to clarify, math courses count towards science correct?

Thanks

Hey kinko!

The science GPA includes any chemistry, biology, physics, or math courses you take, not just the pre-med prereqs, so most if not all your engineering classes will be part of your science GPA. 🙂

Actually, I'm not so sure of that DrJ. I'm a biomed eng, and most of my engineering classes did not count towards my bcmp. It was just that....bio, chem, math, and physics. My electric circuits class didnt count, quant. physiology, eng. math did not count. Thankfully it was that way, otherwise my bcmp would be crap.

Doesnt amcas automatically select which classes get counted into bcmp?

Engineering classes DO NOT count towards the science GPA. AMCAS automatically calculates it and does not count them.

On a side note, one advantage of engineering is that some schools will scale your GPA to take into account the difficulty of the major. Being that Chem E. is one of the hardest I'd say you'll be in good shape.

Similar for me. When I applied (back in 2000), my Biomechanics, Biofluids, etc. classes counted as "Bio," but not the Circuits, Controls, etc. type classes.
