hey guys, thank yall for being so responsive on my last post. this site kicks ass. you guys rock. anyways, i have another question: do psychology courses count towards your science GPA for DO schools? or do only the required courses like chemistry, physics, and bio count towards your science GPA? im really hoping psych classes count towards my science GPA cause that will give me the boost i need. anyways, if anybody knows i'd appreciate it. thanks guys.

No they don't. I picked up a psych major hoping it will count but no. should have went with chem. (psych thought me of course lots of things, but not as much as i wish.) if you can aviod that trap do so.

But if you have an interest in psych, it doesn't hurt. Many medical schools are requiring behavioral science prereqs, and rightly so. It could look favorable on you in a non GPA sort of way if you do it well, and have a genuine interest and aptitude in it. Hey, it helped me, it could help anyone. 😀

i took a psych dept. class called 'neurobiology of thought and communication' or something like that and it counted--and was aacomas approved--as science. i probably could have counted my 'culture biology med gender' class, too, but that's a tricky one to label and a bit of a stretch so i didn't. i don't know how many of those you had to take 😉 but there's a chance you could have a few of them count.

The FAQ has a detailed description of what is included in the science GPA. As Testy said there is a possibility to get classes counted in your science GPA if you can show it crosses over into any of the topics listed under science GPA. In the end it is up to AACOMAS to decide on such issues.
