I need two science letters by the looks of it for when I apply to DO schools in less than a years time. Next year, as a senior, I will be taking about 24 credits - ALL SCIENCE - courses. I'll have 1 MD LOR, 1 DO LOR, and possibly a LOR from my research advisor (probably not needed anyways).

I do need those important two LOR from science prof's that many DO schools require. How do I go about getting these? Visit their office hours a few times? Do I need to 4.0 their classes?

Please help!

I would recommend sitting in the front of the class and attending office hours whenever you can. While you're studying/doing homework, write down some questions you may have. If you don't have any questions, then play dumb. My school had big classrooms, so it was a little more difficult, but I still managed with just sitting in the front and going to office hours. You might be discouraged the first few times since they may not remember you, just make sure to introduce yourself each time until they give you the "I know, I remember you" line.

Will you have any of the professors for more than one class? That might be helpful so they can get to know you for a longer period of time, let's say over the course of one and a half semesters, before you ask for the letter. Or if you've had any of them for a previous class already... same idea.

You don't need a 4.0 in the class. But it is important as these LOR's are there to firstly show that you have academic finesse and strength in the sciences. However, I think there is much more that comes from these letters then a simple rehash that you were smart student. Really try and reach out to show that you are not only interested in the class, but perhaps their research (if they are performing research). If you can, perform well and offer to assist him/her in the following offered course. Another important thing is to make sure that they know you well and that your final goal is medicine. There's a fine line between showing genuine interest vs. being an obvious brown nose so be careful.
