I know of a surgeon who is a bit older and he owns a family practice clinic. He also treats patients in the hospital as a family practice doctor.

He never did a FP residency, just the Gen Surg. Residency.

So may question is if you are a Gen Surgeon and for some reason do not want to operate anymore, can you work as a FP doc?

You can do anything you want as long as you have a valid medical license, although without being BE/BC in another specialty I would think it might be a tad difficult to get admitting priviledges to hospitals.
