So I just took my first practice test and I did fairly well. I'm just curious if some of you guys can tell me how much your scores went up? I'm taking the test on August 22nd and I've been studying for about three weeks...can i expect a 4 maybe 5 point increase?

My score on practice tests went up about 6 points from my baseline over 3 weeks of intensive studying (haven't heard back about the real thing yet). But it really depends where your weaknesses are. If you just need to learn your material better, you can probably expect big score increases as you study. If time constraints or problems with the reasoning involved are weaknesses, they might be harder problems to fix in a month, though you will probably still see a significant score increase if you spend a lot of time taking practice tests.

I got a 10 on my first practice verbal section and had it up to 11 by the end, but couldn't seem to bring it higher than that with the limited time I had. But my BS and PS sections were weak because I didn't know the material, so I saw more dramatic score increases there after studying.

Depends on what you got on the test. You may not expect to see a significant increase on a 35 especially if you knew the material, but if you go through and relearn lots of topics that you didn't remember before, you might pull a 25 up to a 30.

Thanks NKat, yeah I think my main problem in BS was for sure material and in PS a little bit material a little bit reasoning and who knows about verbal. Also, I noticed in your MDApps profile that you are an EMT, I've been wanting to get certification and I looked online and it seems like you have to take a course for pretty much the whole summer, is there a way to get certified with just online courses and a more flexible schedule that you know about?

Not that I know of. There's a big practical component to the class and a practical exam at the end, so it would be difficult to do everything over the internet, where you don't have equipment to practice with.

I did mine at the ambulance corps near my school while taking a normal 15 credit semester and it wasn't too bad. The information in the class itself is very basic, so if you already have some knowledge of first aid and anatomy, you shouldn't have to dedicate too much time to studying. It's mostly just making the time commitment to get to class and read the book. I always found the class to be a nice, relaxing break from the orgo and physics I was taking at the time.

Tons of people get low 20 diagnostic scores and improve 15 points or so (I'm one of them). If you did well, that's good. Let's say you got a 30. Don't expect a 43 😀 but aim for high 30s. Hell, aim for a 40.
