I was wondering what would be the minimmal requirements for a potential candidate for residency in Pathology especially since the field is getting more and more competitive ....

Thanks....

A US grad will likely match somewhere with little difficulty regardless of their step 1 scores. A FMG may have trouble with anything less than outstanding USMLE scores (220-230+) and I would say even then it is not a sure thing.

Path is getting more competitive yes, but it is still not a very competitive specialty overall. Especially, if like last year programs keep adding significant numbers of positions.

magyarorszag!!

wassup my man!? you considering Path now??

while i agree with Great Pumpkin (*salutes the pumpkin*)....i think IMGs with a 220+ will be in a decent position for a good number of invites. They might not be from the high tier programs, but middle and lower tier programs will probably be possible.

my scores are less than 220. so far.....7 rejections, 1 interview from Tufts University/Baystate Medical

i will be able to tell you more in March, i think!

CHEERS man and keep in touch...feel free to e-mail me on this matter

rirriri, if you don't match in a mid-tier university program are you going to do something else and try again next year......or are you going to settle for a community type program?

If worst comes to worst(and I still think as a USIMG who did pass step 1-2 you will hit up a uni program), don't you think any community program will teach you well enough to be perfectly employable 4-5 years later? I mean how many unemployed pathologists from *ANY* programs are there?

Whats up Rirriri !

Presently, just focusing on the boards, but I want to keep my options open and gain enough knowledge about each prospective field out there.

I wish you the best of luck in the Match, but I am sure you will be fine !!!! You have a very determined, and motivated personality and I am sure that will shine through to any PD at any interview you attend.

Love the tunes bro ! Keep it up -- and do not forget about all of us when you become famous !!

Best of LUCK in March -- Hopefully sooner with a prematch!!
