Hey. Scored 231 on step 1 and just got my score back for step 2 with a 229. Really surprised cause I was getting 240s on UWSA. Chances on matching to IM? I’m gonna assume high tier and mid tier programs are out and I’m left with low mid tier and low tier programs? Anyone have insight?

I'd look at the 2018 NRMP charting outcomes. You should still have a good shot at low mid tier and low tier programs. Can probably apply to some mid tier programs as well as reaches.

High tier programs were basically already out with a 231 on step 1 matter your score on step 2.

Step 2 matters a lot less than step 1 and that step 2 score while lower isn't going to make people think that yourstep 1 score was a fluke .

Where you will match will depend on a handful of factors:
Clinical grades and class rank
Us or foreign school, MD or do a school, top tier or run of the mill school
Quality of letters of rec
Research

If you're a foreign grad who is 3 years out, have mediocre lors, little us clinical experience and no research your chance of matching at all is slim to none.

If you're a Harvard grad at the top of your class with tons of research and monster LORs you're probably going to match at a top teir or nearly top tier place.

If you're a mere mortal from a normal MD school in the middle of your class you will likely match to a university program which is mid tier.

I think we need more info about you.
