how are the boards scored? jeez, it seems like one of those things people are just supposed to know ... i see that competitive people generally score 200 on their step I's, for example, but is that a raw score: only 200 right out of 350 questions? do your scores get added up when applying to residency, or is it kinda like the SATs where they keep your math and english scores separate for a reason to see your strengths and weaknesses?

the NBME keeps it a big secret. it isn't possible to know how many questions were scored or how many you got correct. basically, the scores compare you to the others that took it, and that is it.
