Hello all,

I have been studying with Dr.Collins study guides for June PCAT. There is no scoring scales on these study guides and i was just wondering how well should i be doing on these tests to score well on real pcat? For example, lets say if i am missing 5 questions in average for Biology section how would that translate to my % in bio section in pcat? For those of you who did well on pcat using dr.collins study guide, were you acing those practice tests?

I have been wondering this, too.

I have heard of people that take them more than once - mastering the tests helps master the material.

I was missing like 2 questions on the bio exams. Sometimes I didn't miss any. I scored a 98 on bio using Dr Collins.

The best thing you can do is purchase a practice test from the PCAT website. It gives you a breakdown of your scores and everything.

I bought 2 practice PCATs and took the first one - plan on taking the second just before the June PCAT.

How closely do you think the results (percentile ranges) correlate to performance on the actual PCAT?

For instance, my breakdowns on the practice test (before reviewing anything) were:

composite: 80-99 (about 85% of items correct)
verbal, bio, and RC: 80-99 (95% items correct)
Chem: 65-85 (70% items correct)
Quant: 70-90 (73%items correct)

Looking at that, I cannot imagine my composite would be as high as 80. Correct me if I am wrong but the score numbers you get are percentiles as compared with everyone else who took the test, not actual scores. So a 99 would mean you did better than pretty much everyone, and a 1 would mean you did worse than most everyone, even if you got half of the items correct. Right? or am I wrong.....

I would probably throw the score report down the disposal if I got a 5 or 10, but it seems like someone has to if it is percentiles. Most people who take the PCAT are seriously considering Pharm school, so I assume the pool is full of smart people who have been taking classes to prepare for it.

I am relying on the practice exams mostly for an idea of how the questions are styled and as a diagnostic tool to reveal my weak areas, but it would be nice to have some idea of how they correlate to the actual test.

Oh geesh I just realized I need to read up on the essay portion so I know what I am doing there....

Yes, those are percentile scores. You get a raw score, but with the PCAT no one really pays attention to the raw score.

Most people who score very high on one or two sections will not do as well on the other sections so composite score will be higher than the average of your section scores. For example if you scores were something like:

90
80
75
90

You would probably have about a 90 composite.
