I wanted to know what are my chances of getting accepted into medical school (MD) ? I screwed up very badly my first semester of attending a community college and ended up with 1.69 GPA. According to my midterm grades, this semester I am doing so much better. (All A's and 1 C, trying to bring that grade up) However, i would like to know how my first semester grades are going to effect my admissions into med school many years from now when i do apply. I will be transferring to a university so my GPA from community college will be erased but the D and F i received my first semester will still be on my transcript and i assume it will be counted towards my med school application gpa. If i were to get a 4.0 gpa every semester (Highly unlikely but for example) I would still only end up with a 3.70 gpa (4.0 x 7 + 1.69 = 29.69/8 semesters)

Your GPA might be erased from your new school but you must submit a transcript from every college/university you have attended. So that 1.69 will definitely be factored into your ACMAS GPA. From now on you have to do well but be realistic and know it is very unlikely you'll get a 4.0 every semester. Work on your ECs and in a couple of years work on taking the MCAT. You have lots of time . Stop trying to figure out a magical GPA.

you basically just rephrased everything I wrote above :bored: Also, I'm aware of how unlikely it is that I get a 4.0 every semester semester. Note how i posted it in my question... I'm aware of how bad a 1.69 gpa is. That's exactly why Im asking if i even have a chance In medical school. I do not want to waste my time taking mcat courses if i have no chance getting into med school. Im going into second year now.

Don't worry about taking MCAT a course for a couple of years. See where your GPAs are and if you even are still interested in med school. Things change all of the time. Work on your ECs. Get some clinical experience and shadow some docs. You might decide the profession isn't for you at all or it may just reinforce your feeling you don't see yourself doing anything else. Anything is possible with hard work.

Have you considered becoming a DO? You can do grade replacement for the classes you got a C or lower in (DOs honor grade replacement, MDs do not). This would significantly raise your DO GPA and you could get into one of the older, more established programs as long as your MCAT and ECs are good. You could still apply to MD schools with whatever GPA you do end up with, but I think you will be more successful with DO schools.

you have A Chance for sure. just do ur best moving forwards

You're very early in your undergrad career. Just work really hard to bring your grades up moving forward and develop a meaningful, well-rounded résumé along the way. Med schools will almost certainly know about your flop since they look at all your transcripts, but just have a thoughtful explanation for why this happened. Show them why it was just a bump in the road for you by msintaining solid grades from that point forward and you'll be fine.
