So I came with All A's in Chemistry ...and now in college I might get a C/D in orgo 1

  1. Is it reasonable act to retake it
  2. If yeh when is a good time to do so..I was hoping to take orgo 2 for next semester 🙄
  3. Dental schools gonna look down to me from now and on - I KNOW- obnoxious
  4. I am a freshman and took orgo 1 just cause I had enough credits
  5. The only reason that I did poorly is that I DID NOT STUDY ENOUGH FOR IT -(Bein internaitonal and freshman is my excuess ) I know no dental admission cares about my excuses but just wanted to mention the low grade is not due to wrong study method or a bad professor

Any advice would be appreciated

Yes, I would definitely recommend a retake. You might be freaking out a little too much though. Your only just starting college. If you don't make this a trend, I wouldn't see this being too much of a problem for you. Just always do your best!

Retake it. I got a D in gen chem 1 6 or 7 years ago, doesn't seem to matter since I retook it and got an A. Not one of my interviewers has asked about my GPA, let alone that one particular class. If you do well afterwards, it shouldn't really matter.

D = retake
C = don't retake. Just do better in other Chem classes and do well on DAT portion

I sure that people had same experience that you are having, including me , must have felt exactly the same way you feel right now. And the funny thing is that what you are concerning about is nothing , really.

That could be really big thing to you now but you will be laughing about this later.

Dont worry but dont let it happen frequently.

This. Crush orgo 2. I don't even think our school allows freshman to jump straight in to orgo. I would never have passed as a freshman.

My freshman year I got a 2.7 and a 3.2 now I have never had an overall less than 3.4. Freshman year blows! It's hard and difficult to adjust. I didn't pass calc one freshman year so don't worry. Just kick butt from now on!

I wouldn't sweat it much with a C. Just do well in orgo 2 and crush the OC portion of the DAT. To me, the OC portion was outrageously easy--they just wanted to see if you knew the basics, and I think that Chad covered all but 2 of the questions. Don't stress too much. If you do, chances are that you'll work yourself into a deeper rut. Organic chemistry gets easier as you go along because you get more familiar with the course; at the beginning, it is entirely foreign and different from any other class you've taken. Furthermore, you may want to try getting a tutor.
Also, I really commend you for being concerned about this as a freshman. I took my grades very seriously back then, but I had no idea that I wanted to go into dentistry! You have a huge head start!
