I'm looking for some suggestions... I'm 6'2'' 170 lbs, and I can never find scrubs in the hospital to fit me well. the L is way too short and I look like an idiot. the XXL is long enough, but there's so much waist I can barely get them tied, and I still look like an idiot with all the cloth gathered around my groin. I've looked at a few suppliers' websites and never seen a Large-Tall or anything like it (and anyway, it's a hassle to bring my own scrubs). I've seen tall men wearing normal looking scrubs, so I know they exist, and I can't be the only medical person with this body habitus. Discuss.

But pedal pushers are so in this year! 😉

If bringing in your own scrubs is a drag and you can't fit into anything the hospital has (and you've checked with Environmental Services on alternate sizes), then you might be faced with...either looking like an idiot or bringing your own in.

Now it seems to me that you could open the seams of the XXL ones and take them in a few inches - thus you would have the desirable length with less width. Plus, it gives you practice suturing. Obviously you would have to keep the scrubs and launder them yourself.

Otherwise, a fancy border sewn onto your shorties would looke rather pretty, IMHO. 😀

Much as it sucks having to shell out the cash, I would recommend investing in a few pairs of scrubs that actually fit. Many of the commercial brands run a lot longer than hospital ones, and I'm sure you could contact the dispenser to get measurements (or go to one of those hospital supply places and try them on 😉). This problem isn't going to change during your residency, and you will likely need scrubs for the next couple of years...

Just my $0.02 😎

i hear ya...i'm a few inches taller than you and about the same waist and i have to wear the xxl............ my recommendation is to spread the bunched up material around your waist and wear nice looking socks...
wear your jacket it'll cover your waist...or you could sag your scrubs....
my concern with buying your own is who wants to have their own scrubs covered with bodily fluids and wash them in their own washer and dryer...

They have scrubs for tall people at our hopsital. In addition to the regular sizes there are LONG or TALL ones. too.

Damn, I thought this was going to be a thread about how the show "Scrubs" should be 1:00 hr instead of just 30 min...

Maybe this thread can turn in that direction...I agree that Scrubs should be on for an hour instead of 30 minutes! 😀 Anybody agree? 🙂

My girlfriend found this Ebay seller who sells the first 3 seasons of Scrubs on DVD (recorded of course)... It's got a few flaws and the sound is not all that but it's so damn funny!

You should all look it up... Scrubs should be required for med school!

Unless you're the perfect "average" height, regular scrubs wont fit. How come they have "long" scrubs too, but no "short" scrubs? I have to roll mine up at the waist or the waist is up around my armpits!

Well I started this post, and I certainly don't mind if we talk about Scrubs; I love that show. I think the first season was the best by far. Our medical school does a humanities/ethics/physician in society course in the first year, and their approach is so ineffective and patronizing that I've often thought they should scrap the whole thing and make the class watch the whole first season. They deal with all the relevant issues: ethics, professional relations, end-of-life issues, cross-cultural issues. And it was hilarious...

I just looked on nbc.com and it says that Scrubs isn't going to be on again until the new season starts on Oct. 2! It doesn't look like they are even going to show any more reruns until then. 🙁 (I look forward to Thursday nights because of Scrubs)

Imagine how disappointed I was when an extra-long Scrubs was listed on my cable listings last night and I turn it on at 9:20 and find out it's not my extra-long Scrubs.... it is in fact an "Encore Presentation of the premier episode of the new hit comedy 'Whoopi'".

I am ashamed to live in a country where more people will watch "Whoopi" than Scrubs!

I use the XL or XXL scrubs and just bunch that crap around my thin little waist. I don't care. As long as I'm not wearing floods, I feel comfortable. I look goofy anyways since I am the only person who uses ALL of the pockets on my scrub top and bottoms.
