Wow!

i finally tried on my scrubs (since i'd need them in afew days) to see how it looks/feels. i have to admit that its the weirdest feeling. hate wearing something i am not used to. reminds me of how uncomfortable i was when i wore a tux for the 1st time for my prom. LOL

anyhow, i have a stupid question. are you supposed to have the shirt tucked in? my school's dress code asks us to have it tucked in. which brings me to my 2nd question. just how much emphasis do schools really put in their dress codes. (ie do you get in trouble if you are wearing your shirt out?)
thanks

What's really scary is that very soon you'll be thinking how uncomfortable your regular clothes are 😱 I basically look at it as I get to go to work every day wearing pajamas

I'm also of the mind set that you tuck your scrubs in, a much more professional look that way.

i agree that having a shirt tucked in looks more professional (regular clothing). i seriously do not think that wearing it out makes it look totally un pro.i think it looks fine and more comfy. wish the schools saw it that way.

gotta love them, very comfortable. The dress code is not usually enforced. In my class, people are wearing a punch of different color scurbs. It started out as light green, now it's navy, purple, pink, even red....I hope that they didn't pay for those scrubs, hideous colors! We're supposed to wear white lab coat over scrub too.

Your school's dress code should only apply to female! Only female with a happy ending are allowed to tuck in their shirts 😀 About the guys, ahhh, who cares 🙄

Scrubs are professional pajamas
Almost no other professionals can dress like this and expect to be respected
😉

hoollllddd upp.. guys, are we required to wear scrubs to school everyday?? i mean, even ur first two years, when ur only taking science classes, u still gotta wear scrubs? that sucks if thats the case. thanks

omar

for us, its either a dress shirt and dress slacks or scrubs. no other way.

why don't they have better looking ones for girls? They're too big and there's no way to get around the square shaped top!! 😕

LADIES: some stylish scrubs were designed by some nurses in Dallas:
they are called "Urbane Scrubs" and they are cut for a woman's body. On the one design that I really like, the shirt ends on your hip bone and has a nice shape to the top, the bottoms are definitely shaped right in the hips. they have become very popular w/the women at our school! They look really nice, but are $45-50 a pair. BUT you wear them all the time, so its not bad - I will never go back to the crappy $12 unisex PJs!
at my school (UTHSC san antonio), most professors dont care about our preclinical dresscode, there are a few girls that stretch the rules if ya know what i mean! really though, we just wear our normal casual clothes - usually shorts and tees and tennis shoes. the only professor that cares is this RPD instructor, very straight laced; he made everyone wearing flip flops to lab come to the front of the lecture hall and sing the Barney song. point taken. also, some professors dont like baseball hats. but for the most part we never hear anything about our clothes.

In clinic, most "tuck" but not all, I personally dont b/c the above mentioned scrubs (urbane) are designed to not be tucked in.

after reading about other schools in shirts and ties or scrubs ONLY - i feel like i am in a very laid back environment here in the alamo city!

  I can totally see myself doing something like that if I ever get to be a professor!

My school requires scrubs all the time, a differnt color for every year. I think you can also wear shirts and ties, but i don't think anyone does that. You also have to wear your white coat when you go into any administrators offices.

JROGOFF,

i thought you were a whitecoat only in the labs. if i am not mistaken, i don't think that our school allow us to wear our coats outside the labs. i could be wrong though.

Perfect,

I'm not too sure about the labs, because when i visited some of the labs i didn't see anyone wearing a white coat. But i am sure about wearing white coats when visiting administrator's offices. I'm not sure of the reason for this, i guess they just want you to look professional when visiting them? Your guess is as good as mine.

You don't HAVE to wear the white coat in lab or up on the third floor-the admin are a little understanding since it can get soooo hot down here esp with the humidity (I heard an admin tell one of the professors that). Also our dress code is scrubs all the time-there is no shirt and tie. Here's a tip: don't have your undershirt hanging out of your scrubs (esp in front of some of the professors-one professor will kindly point out how your "slip" is showing).

^^^

Thanks for that tip, my undershirt is always hanging out of my scrubs at work. I gotta work on that!

I got the same ones, and they fit great, just like a pair of jeans. Where did you get yours? I got mine at allheart.com and paid a lot less, you might want to check it out.

$35 bucks for scrubs? :scared:
thats our LA. nothing cheap.
i bought a pair from Costco for $15 (whole set) and they fit and look great.

only thing is, once anat lab kicks in and you have to wear scrubs everyday, you'd wanna have at least 5 pairs.

Yep... All the fluids splashing around when you work in Gross lab makes the scrubs... gross.

Appropriate (or "mis-appropriate") them from hospitals if need be! I like scrubs with hospital logoes better than plain ones anyway.

For NYUCD, what will we be needing scrubs for anyway in first year? Anatomy? Sim Lab?

Anatomy is second semester anyway according to the curriculum.

Congrats on passing the NERB, Tom! 😀 How's the working world treating you?

Hey Bill,

I'm having a pretty good time! Right now I'm actually practicing in Taiwan, and I see about 12 patients a day. Very busy, which explains why I haven't been around. I still have time to properly take care of myself though(working out every morning) and have a nice weekend getaway now and then. My only complaint is that I have no broadband access-- Dialup sucks.

I'll be coming back to New York when my sister finishes transitioning from associateship to opening her own office. She just finished negotiating a lease for a 5-op office in Westchester (just north of NYC) and will be outfitting it in the next few months. I'll jump right in when the office opens for business.

It's a totally different world after dental school, and I feel great. And to keep the thread on track, I'm still wearing the same scrubs I wore during freshman year... The one with the "UB Gross Anatomy Labs" stenciled on it draws wierd looks from my patients (those who understand English, at any rate).

Kick ass and take names during your 2nd year man!

Good for you Tom! I'm really glad things are working out for you. Westchester is a great community I'm sure you'll enjoy working there a lot. Best of luck 👍

Glad to hear things are working out for you, Tom. I'm looking forward to a lot of what we'll be learning this year, if not the workload it'll take to cover it all.

And you can't fool me--until we graduate, we're supposed to be kissing ass, not kicking it. 😉

where are y'all buying your scrubs?

...any slick deals on scrubs anywhere online?

just bumped an old thread with some links

I got mine at allheart.com's store in LA. After checking again I paid $36 with tax. $17 for the pant and $17 for the top.

Looks like I overpaid. Great scrubs nontheless.
