Anyone know where the cheapest place to buy scrubs is from? What do they usually run? and any advice on buying comfy shoes for dental school? School's starting in like 3 wks!! aahhhh hahaha I'm excited but then agian scared too....
Thanks for your help!!!! 🙂

Wouldn't the scrubs be covered in your freshman supplies issue? Maybe you want to check with your school and see if it is included.

It was included at my school... Though I'm sure it might look a bit wierd to our patients when we wear those scrubs in clinic because "UB GROSS ANATOMY LABS" are stenciled on them.

We didn't get them in our issue, we had to scrounge them up on our own. Some cheapskates are still doing anatomy labs in ordinary clothes, and mostly ruining them with formaldehyde

The place I get all mine is a place called Scrubs & Beyond. I don't know if they have stores where you are, but you can shop online at scrubsandbeyond.com. $17 a set, I haven't found anyplace able to beat that.

Bill, you guys aren't using phenol in the anatomy lab?

It has a sickly sweet smell, but it isn't NEAR as bad as formaldehyde. I don't know what the pros and cons of each substance are, so I wonder if your school isn't onto something by sticking with the old stuff. I was under the impression that all schools had switched to phenol.

We also didn't get any in our issue, but that is because our curriculum is different. We're only spending limited time on very staggered days in the anatomy lab this first semester.

Next semester when we have head and neck and specialized anatomy classes, we'll be in there quite a bit more.

Also, we don't have the clinics completed yet, and being the first class there isn't a need for scrub wear yet.

Gavin, our preservative is ~50/50 formaldehyde/phenol, but formaldehyde has better name recognition as a preservative 😉 Also, our tissue wetting solution (I'm not sure what the chemical composition is) has the very convenient property of absorbing the preservative odors, so thumbs up to the anatomy corps for that decision.

I found a pretty cheap website for scrubs at www.allheart.com

If you get their brand scrubs they are pretty cheap and of good quality. Also if you buy 3 sets (top and bottom) or so, they give you a better price.

Also once school starts ASDA, American Student Dental Association which will most likely be represented by some of your classmates may hold a scrub sale. But their scrubs are still a bit more pricey than the allheart.

Give it a shot,

Good luck

Another source of scrubs would be any hospitals you volunteered or worked at.. Though you have to appropriate them (or misappropriate them heh) in an underhanded manner. 😀

Many of my classmates like to wear those *ahem* appropriated scrubs with their unique logos and stenciling-- Showed where they have been and makes them look "experienced" to the dental school clinic patients I guess. 😛

I got a set from the NY Eye and Ear Infirmary and another from Mount Sinai.. Which are the UGLIEST set of scrubs you will ever see but looks real "official".
