Just wanted to know from what you have heard or experienced, do most medical schools want the English requirement to be completed at the time of applying or simply by the time of matriculation? Would love to have some feedback. Be specific in terms of a particular school and how stringent they are with the English requirement. Thanks!

i haven't done any research, but from reading past posts on this forum, i think that every school that requires English just wants it to be completed before you matriculate. correct me if i'm wrong, anyone.

It's always seemed to me like they're only concerned if you never took it.

at most schools, you just have to complete their requirements for entrance before matriculation, but your app will probably be stronger if you have completed all of the requirements before application.

Before matriculation is almost always OK. Different schools may have different dates, i.e., "you must have earned at least a bachelor's degree and completed all coursework by X." If you have questions, call the schools.

I got bitten on this: "You need one semester of literature and one of composition." Fine, I thought, tech writing will be my composition course and my semi-standard literature-based freshman English course will be literature. No way. That class better have "literature" in its name. Now here I am taking a lit course by mail. I picked a course I like, so it isn't a huge problem, but now instead of just "wrapping up a couple of prereqs" my credit total has crept up to half-time, in addition to the daily office grind.

Which school is that Hersey?

That would be Minnesota. I'm not griping, mind you. . . they still took me. And they offer a nice selection of English courses by mail, which is quite convenient.

i don't have any lit classes, but the only school i applied to that requires lit was tulane. anyone know how strict they are about the requirement? i really don't feel like taking a lit class now.
