I like to know about ...
1. If student transfer during his or her basic science year one carribean medical school to another, there will be any problem he or she will face during residency.
2. If student transfer after completing basic science to another carribean medical school. Do residencies people ask transcripts new medical where student currently enrolled for clinical rotations or actually where he or she has finished basic science.
3. What happened if residency people don't get reponse from old school about transcripts. What student need to do.
4. Some student like to attend new carribean medical school, but somewhere in middle of the road new carribean medical school moved to another Island. Do their is any disadvantage for students who has finished their basic science from that school. Student godwell stay with their old school or move to new medical school for future study. Where student going to face more with old jumping school or stable new medical school end of the road.
5. Or no matter what happen. All things are depend on only student usmle steps scores no matter school is united states approved or not.stable or moving one island. New or old.
6. moving for clinical rotation with approved medical school will increase student getting residency at great place or all depend on where he or she has finished basic science.I mean with good or passing after all usmle steps.
I want advice from knowlegable almost physician, who have seen these issues with friends or relatives. He or she must know least good answers for my questions. I will be thankful that great physician or going to be great physician by my heart.

Sorry about the delay however i hope this helps answer some of your questions...
1. as far as transferring from one caribbean school to another.. it would probably be to your advantage to complete your curriculum at the school you started. Jumping from one school to the next makes you seem unstable and the next question would be, "why are you transferring" I've found in the past that most students trxf because they have either not met the minimum passing requirments at a particular school ( and this is after repeating on a number of attempts) So my advice to you would be to start and finish at the same school.
2. You will have to supply all transcripts for the match..no getting around that!
3. if you are having trouble acquiring transcripts from a school, hopefully you would have COPIES of your transcript...send the unofficial first....and explain this..but you have to put in a little work if the school isnt sending your documents in a timely fashion
4.It will be to your advantage to stay with "stable medical school" again when researching the school to attend..be sure to find out what schools have been around the longest...it probably wouldn't be to prudent to attend a school that has only been in existence for a few years
5This is true...but remember that board scores are important, just as your clinical grades, which includes your sub-internship grades and research, publishing, etc.....its a whole package. Now some school ultimately have cut-offs for minimum scores req..that's to cut the interview number down. However that may not be the case if you have done your major rotation and sub-internship at a particular hospital or university system.
6. Well, rotations are rotations...the biggest indicator of how much and what you will learn ultimately depends on you, additionally, the number of students in the rotation, the hospital size and level status (1,2 or 3). But OB/GYN is OB/GYn everywhere...but your exposure and hands on experience is a big factor.

regarding sgu, ross, auc, and saba: without an mcat score there's no way to know if you stand a chance... but i'd say you need a minimum of a 25 to get into a fall class (maybe a little less for ross and saba)...

as far as aua is concerned, if you can prove you can pay the tuition then they probably don't care what your score is... that may be an exaggeration but since they don't have all 50 state approval, they're considered among the lower tier of the caribbean schools.

Hello there!

I am a new member in desperate need of help.

i am have my doctorate in physical therapy (3.8 graduate gpa), i have worked for about 7 years and then decided to go back to school last year and earn my MD degree (because i want to challenge myself and be able to help patients more, i am limited with what i can do).

my grades are about 10 years old, 3.8 overall undergrad, 3.6 science (both undergrad and grad). i am at Penn's post-bac program special sciences (because i have all of my pre-reqs completed from undergrad) right now taking some upper level science classes to show that i can still perform well. problem is, i don't have 3 years to wait until i get accepted to medical school. i am currently 37, i have 1 more year left in Penn's program and another year studying/preparing for mcats. by the time i apply i won't be matriculating into a medical program for another 3-4 years. the reason why it's taking so long is because i have to work full time (in the rehab dept of a cancer treatment hospital) along with going to Penn at night and it's really hard.

i spoke to a few friends who are practicing physicians and they knew people who went to the caribb w/o taking the MCATS and w/o having a "committee letter" from their post bac programs. i have a friend who is a grad from ROSS and had no problems getting rotations or a residency here in philadelphia, pa.

what are the BEST caribbean schools in your opinion? which schools have the best usmle pass rate, rotations and residencies?

do you know of any that do not require mcats other than ross and st. george's?

and what is your opinion of AUA?

mmk im sure everyone is used to this question by now but im asking it anyway lol. sooo what are my chances of getting in (not merp) for Jan 2011 (assuming i submit my app by mid august):

cumGPA (from UCIrvine) : 3.208
science gpa (according to my transcript) : ~3.1 ish
MCAT: 24Q (V:10 B:8 P:6)

I only have 2 retakes: 1 from when I got a D+ IN GEN chem 1 (out of 3) my very first quarter and then got a B-, and the second from physics 1 (out of 3) in which I got a C- retook and then got a C.

I am also thinking of retaking the MCAT Aug. 5th but I wanted to figure out if it was necessary or not so I called Ross and I was told that with my stats it was unecessary. soo I am wondering if they were bull****ing me and that my stats would just place me in merp or am I a legit candidate for direct admission? I might as well ask what my chances would be for AUC and SABA too.

2 years of research, 100+ hours at a free clinic, member of a couple clubs, dean's list a few times,shadowed a doc for 3 years, volunteeres at a state mental disabilities hospital
