Do you think seat availability opens up closer to the test date? I'm looking to retake on June 20 but as of now, none of the available test centers are anywhere remotely close to me. They're all in Texas, Louisiana, British Columbia....etc...I live on the East Coast.

I'm applying this year already...and this test date is sort of my last chance. In your experience, does the June test date seats usually open up closer to the test date?

Thanks!

Test dates always open up (New York, California, name whatever impossible to get seat and it's actually not impossible). The problem is that you may spend a week refreshing the AAMC page every 5 minutes before you find the exact seat you want and snatch it before anyone else does. You WILL find it, it will just take some effort. Try not to get too anxious about looking because then you'll have a seat but will have wasted a week of possible studying.

To answer your question, more seats will open up around the time of the exam (and they'll be taken just as quickly--it's still a game of musical chairs, just a lot more people playing) but don't count on that because you don't want to be without a seat a week before the exam. For me, at least, it would make me too nervous. However, if you're the kind that likes to live dangerously then go ahead, it could work.
