Hey everyone!! I am just wondering if anyone has any idea of how many students apply to Dental school each year (specifically this year) in the United States, and how many seats for first years there are available in the country. It would be interesting to know. Now that the DAT is over, there is room in my head for trivial facts like these.

Good question. I wonder if you haven't discovered Predents.com yet though. It has all kinds of information on that sort of thing. Check it out.

There's around 4500 spots total, and in the past 2 years around 10,000-11,000 people have applied. You can see individual school stats on predents.com

Also keep in mind that most schools accept up to around twice the size of the entering class.

yea i noticed that...but i never understood...what if everyone they accepted decided to attend that school...then what do they do? boot people?

Firstcome first serve, they accept people until all the seats are full.

Schools have experience at figuring out how many acceptances will not take to their school....they've got good at it, so I don't think they worry about it. ALmost every school ends up taking a few people from their waitlist in the end.

You gotta figure that the highly competitive applicants who applied to 10 schools probably got accepted to 8, so there is only a 1/8 chance of getting that student to also accept the school.
