Hi---

What are your plans as for as financial aid? working during school? etc?

I'm married and would work part-time as long as I could (I'm a nurse), but we're worried about making ends meet, etc.

Any advice would be great!

Well, I am essentially living on my husbands salary, although he does now (and did before when I was working as a tech) make a lot more money than I did. So, our financial perspective didn't change that much in terms of paying for the mortgage, food, etc. One thing that I did not know about financial aid before I started school is that the financial aid office will calculate a total budget for students based on not only tuition, but also line items for a number of other things such as living expenses, books, travel, and a miscellaneous line to cover computer, supplies, etc. So, we were very pleasantly surprised to find that I qualified for a lot more loan than we had expected. For this year and last year, we chose to only accept the subsidized portion of the loan (hence no interest until after graduation) and pay the rest out of pocket because we had some savings to do that with. We'll see about next year. Bottom line, you will probably be able to get more in loans than you thought. I am still working very part-time, but my salary covers things like lunches, gas, etc. for me.

I will have to take out loans to cover everything from tuition to daycare to living expenses (since I pay half the monthly expenses with my salary). I work for a great company that employs alot of pharmacists. I am going to try and work something out so they will pay my tuition if I work for them when I graduate. If that doesn't work out, I will be about 200K in the hole when I am finished. 😱
I'm not too worried though because I will roughly double my salary when I get out.

Just out of curiosity, what type of company is it and what region of the country is it in? Thanks for any info.

I work for Humana in Louisville, KY. I am in procurement and work closely with the pharmacy group so I have alot of pharmacist contacts. They have a large mail order facility in Phoenix and smaller pharmacies in South Florida. The mail order facility is really neat and they just installed technology to have one work at home pharmacist. She has monitors in her home and does verification there. They are also have plans to open additional pharmacies in the midwest. At corporate, they have a variety of positions for pharmacists. If you go on www.humana.com and look at the careers you can see some of the different positions. I am interested in Clinical Pharmacy Review and Formulary determination. If you have any more questions, let me know.

Thanks for the info. I know I am way jumping the gun, but I am looking for possible careers outside of retail.👍
