Has anyone out there thought of what they'd do if they didn't get into med school? I know it's awful pessimistic to think like that, but I can't help but worry. I'm thinking of going into biomedical engineering. I'm gettin a B.S. in biochemisty but i wouldn't want to do anything in research labs, at least no right away. Anyone else have any ideas of what else i could do w/ my degree?

I went through this about two years ago. It was really scarry to realize that I might not get into medical school (and I didn't back in 2000). I ended up doing an MPH in epidemiolgoy, and have been very happy with my choice. I continued my research and volunteer work, and have gotten a number of interview offers this year, and most importantly, my top choice accepted me. So try not to freak out too much during this scarry time.

there are many choices... there are basic science 1-2yr fellowships, there are graduate program options (again 1-2 yrs) in non-basic science yet clinically relevant areas: public health, you can teach with your bachelors (ie teach for america), if you wanna have a totally different experience while gaining volunteer hours you can join the peace corps... etc. good luck! i hope this helps.😎
