Hi guys,

I was wondering if you guys knew whether clinical PhD programs offer more than one round of interview invitations? I ask because it seems like a lot of schools are having interview weekends in Jan and early Feb... so will these schools send out more invitations for later on for interviews in late Feb or March? Or are they actually going to start sending out acceptances, waitlists, and rejections soon?!

Thanks guys.

Sincerely,
Hopeful

OR, do schools look at their applications in the order the applications were submitted as in those who applied closer to the deadline, their app gets looked at later and they get invited for an interview later in the interview season? (Another hopeful thought!)

Thanks, that's what I was afraid of... hopefully not all programs are like that though! Has anyone heard of programs that do offer more than one round of interviews? If not, how come all the interviews are so soon? What happens in the rest of Feb and March?

Thanks!

Not all schools have interviews in january. The interview season goes right through the end of february/first week of march. My program doesnt even have their official meeting to decide who they invite for interviews until the first week of february, the interviews are the 3rd week of february. I personally went on an interview in March when I was applying, and got the invite after I thought no one was still inviting....good luck👍

I called UCF today because I saw they had already had their interviews. The lady I spoke with said that they were meeting today to discuss another round of interviews and not to give up hope yet. It was a little reassuring. However, I'm not sure how many schools do that. Hope that helps and doesn't just add more anxiety!!

Irt3, that's great news!! Thanks for sharing that! 🙂

Interview season typically lasts through the first week of March (there are usually an outlier or three who interview the week after). Invites typically go out within the second week of Feb. or early, though, again, there's usually a couple of outliers. I know last year and the year before American's clinical program had two rounds of interviews and invites. Some programs also have interview waitlists, where they invite others if their initial invitees elect not to come, although I think this is pretty uncommon. USF (South Florida; clinical) also tends to waitlist invitees and give them phone interviews if things don't work out with the in-person invitees. At least one person from SDN (last year; maybe others before that?) got an offer there through the interview waitlist.

Oh really?! That's promising! Hmm, maybe I should call a few of the schools I'm especially interested in to see whether they think they'll have more interview rounds... Did you just call the psych dept secretary?

That's true futureapppsy2, although it seems like most of the interview invites went out mid Jan thru beg of Feb this year... but maybe more will come. Hopefully at least!
