I tried to do a search on info about second looks at accepted schools, but it wouldn't use my keywords....

Anyone have info on what its all about? Or know where old threads covering such topics are?

Do schools usually pay for transport?

I haven't heard any news about this yet personally.

i don't know about the rest of your questions, sorry, but the paying for transport question - i doubt schools would do that. grad schools usually pay for stuff like that, but they don't interview hundreds of people. (I realize this is only for accepted people...but there are still 200-300 or more accepted people per school, except for Mayo and maybe a few other small schools i don't know about)

I've heard schools do pay for transportation for second looks.

i know that vandy takes care of everything from plane ticket to hotel. however, i seriously doubt many other schools would do that due to a lack of funds.

oh wow! i was wrong....cool, thanks mwillie.

I still find it hard to believe:

Med schools adcoms doing something for us that they don't have to?

😱

northwestern pays for everything on their second look weekend. no other school i've been to so far has mentioned anything about a second look weekend in general, so i'm not sure if they have them or what.

so how expensive a plane ticket will schools like vanderbilt pay for? i'll be flying from the dominican republic to nashville, so i'm guessing that's around 650. is that too much for them?

So it seems like some schools have 'em, some don't:

1) Does anyone know who has 2nd look weekends?
2) Does anyone know which schools cover expenses and how much?

As the new year brings good news to folks (fingers crossed everyone), any input???

UW-Seattle pays for all the expenses on second-look weekend.

Too bad they rejected me

Michigan has a second look weekend, and Colorado has a day for the incoming class to meet in April, to ask questions and get to know the program a little better. No idea about funding, though I've heard that Michigan spends a bundle of dough on it though.

Cornell and NYU are both having second look weekends. Penn has one as well, in April in conjuction with the Penn relays.

I love lists....I'll start, feel free to fill in, add, or correct anything...

Thinking about it real quick... schools don't pay for the second look. I would assume that they would just tack it into your tuition so you don't lay out the money upfront but they stick it to you in the end.

An excellent point. So, we may as well enjoy every second look weekend and stick it to the future students of schools we decide not to attend.

P.S. I laughed out loud (in the quiet computer lab, mind you) at your Escalator Temporarily Stairs sig.

Cornell's is the weekend of the MCAT... ahhh how things can change in a year... 😉

Columbia had it's second look last year in the middle of April... it was on a
Thursday and Friday. You had the option of staying Weds and Thurs nights, I believe, with a student. Nothing else was paid for, but there was lots of free food! We went out on the upper west side, watched a student "coffee house" (almost like a talent/variety show), learned about classes/curriculum, had a tour, had a cookout, etc...

UNC had it's second look the Saturday after that (I know -- I attended both -- on very little sleep, haha). It was just during the day.... didn't include cost of travel, but a very nice lunch at the Carolina Inn. Lots of mingling, a tour, student panel, etc...

Last year UMich's second weekend was relatively late, on the weekend of 5/7/2004. No travel expenses covered, but I stayed with an M1 and didn't pay for much.

I think it was the first year they ran it, and it went very well. Besides the usual curricular stuff and an extended tour, we did a bunch of social events and had plenty of time to ask questions of current students and faculty. They also did an extensive housing tour which was very helpful. I was mostly convinced until I got the Offer I Couldn't Refuse in midsummer and switched flags. 🙂

hymmm..thanx for all the feedback..

Classic Mitch Hedburg, that guy is freakin hilarious. If you peruse certain sites, I highly recommend downloading the audio or video of his comedy central special, or checking out any of his CDs. Seriously, top five comedians around right now, if ya ask me, which you didnt.

Love the ATHF quote. I acutally met one of the producers of the show on my visit to Emory!

I was told that at NYU that second look weekend is only for minority students... (GRR by the way since I'm white). Taking this into consideration, perahps all transportation is covered because it is not nearly as many as the accepted students. Anyhow, my question is ... does anyonw know about second look weekends at other schools? Are they also only for minority students?

Yeah, the second quote is from an episode. The first, however, is from the extras on the DVD. There is this whole set of answering machine messages from different characters, and that baby plays every time an adcom calls me to tell me to send in my transcripts or some other crap. Basically, all official callers need to check the number they are dialing about ten times and keep calling, cause my name aint carl, but Carl answers my phone. Its so much funnier to hear it then to read it...

At Northwestern, you have to room with a studentduring second look.... Doesn't sound too appealing after slugging it out during interviews.

i didn't exactly expect them to get me a five star hotel. 😉 plus, i'm not in there yet anyway, so maybe i won't even have the opportunity to go back. do any schools out there not make you stay with a current student?

Wash U" April 8-10 or April 22-24. An actual choice! 👍 🙂

For some reason, I think Vandy led me to believe I would stay at a hotel. Did anyone else get this feeling from talking to Helderman?

One of my best friends goes to Vandy and she said that the school pays for your hotel stay (and airfare I believe). Pretty sweet deal for those who will be attending.

So does that mean people who are still deciding whether to attend can come too?

What were the dates again? March 15th you should only have one school acceptance or something.

I know UCONN has a second look weekend in March. It is not limited to minorities, but open to all. Yale also has a second look weekend sometime in May, and again, its open to everyone. Hope that helps a little...

-->rugirlie...
some schools do host separate second look or revisit weekends for the accepted minority students. you should keep track of the list on this thread to see which ones are open to all..we can keep that info posted so folks will know...

I think most of the schools on the list have second-look for everyone....a few schools (i.e. Umich) host one for minority students and then one for everyone.

i'm just trying to get an idea of the dates because a lot of these will most definitely overlap!!
