How many of you guys are doing second looks? I was thinking of doing them at my top 2 programs. I know everyone says it doesn't help or hurt you but I can't help but think it helps you a little for them to know how interested you are. Do you guys think it can give you a slight edge if you're not necessarily a shoo-in for a spot at a competitive program?

I'm only doing a second look at one place, but that's only because it is close to me and I wanted to get a better idea of how the residents feel about the program (I only met four total on my interview day). I don't think it is necessary, and most PDs have said that they aren't necessary, especially since many people have to fly to their interviews and it isn't fair to those who are close to get special treatment.

I asked the PD at a place I really like if I should come back for a second look and she told me not to bother if I knew it was where I wanted to go - that the visit is really for the applicants and not for the program. It may be different at every place though.....
