Second residency on J1 visa

Hello,

I know you can do a second residency on J1 (ECFMG), the problem is that I called the ECFMG and they REP said that I need to get a second J1 visa in order to do a second residency.

I have 3 year left on my J1, so I will be able to complete the second residency within the 7 year period.

Does anyone knows if I need to get a new J1 or can I complete my second residency with my current J1?

Anybody did this before? Is it difficult to do?

(I know about the funding issue for the second residency)
