I apologize if there has been another topic like this recently, but I was wondering if anyone has advice for my particular situation...
This summer (between jr and sr year) is rather un-activity filled, and I do have a legitimate reason for this, but I'm not sure whether I should try to explain it (in as few words as possible) on my secondaries or not.
My parents moved to a pretty rural area this past year and I joined them after school at the end of May. I had no contacts in the community and still have very few. My plan had been to volunteer at the nearby (read: 45 mins away) hospital and to get a job. Unfortunately, there isn't the getting a job bit hasn't proven very practical (the few summer jobs available were pretty much taken by the time I arrived on scene.) and though I origionally contacted the hospital back in May and they said they needed more volunteers, they have still not given me my hours and their responses to my inquiries have been "we're working it out."
So far all I've managed to do this summer is shadow a family physician (I am legitimately interested in rural medicine), deal with preliminary organization for one of the activities I'm involved in at school and an event for high schoolers we'll be hosting this winter (this has all been by email, but it can take several hours a week), and sign up to help with the local library's booksale (hopefully, this will lead to more volunteer work with them). I'm still actively volunteer work/have my eye out for help wanted signs (applications aside, I'm desperate to get out of the house), but with half the summer gone, I don't hold much hope.
Should I be honest about this in my secondaries or should I just try to play up the few things I am doing and then move on as quickly as possible to my (considerably busy) plans for senior year?
