I will be applying to medical school in 2006. I am thinking about traveling in the begining of summer 2006 (from end of June to mid-July) and I was wondering when is the earliest that one can get a secondary/ when is the earliest they are due.

You should be fine. Secondaries started coming out for this cycle sometime after July 4th, and most aren't due for at least a month, usually more. Only exception I could think of is Northwestern, with it's two-week deadline. If you're coming back mid-July, you'll be fine for almost all schools.
