Several secondaries I've received ask about speeding ticket violations, and I'm not sure how to respond. I received one about 2-3 years ago (for going 75 on the freeway where speed limit is 65), but paid it off and completed traffic school, so it's not on my DMV record. Do I say yes to this question? And then they ask you to explain it, but can I just say that I was going 75 in a 65 or do I need to go more in depth (aka what I learned, etc.)?

For reference, this is Cincinnati's question: "Have you ever been convicted of or pled guilty or no contest to, any moving traffic violations (moving violations include speeding tickets)? If yes, please explain fully below. (include information even if charges were dropped, dismissed, or otherwise mitigated)"

One of the most fascinating ethical quandaries. Personally I hate questions like this because it defeats the whole purpose of expungement and similar mitigation strategies that are intentionally supposed to reduce bias in future applications.

Since it's a general municipal violation and because it was mitigated away, it doesn't 'exist' until you tell others about it.

That being said, a 10 over ticket is so low on the red flag radar I would just include it and very briefly mention traffic school. You'll be able to sleep at night and i'm sure most others have similar. Any school that actually cared about a solitary freeway ticket of minimal consequence wouldn't be a place you would want to be anyway.
