Secondary App Pictures, How did you take them?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
I put on a nice dress shirt with tie. Put on my white lab coat and had a photoshooting session with my girl friend. Looked pretty professional in the end. Kind've gives the whole, you can picture me as an MD with the white coat feeling to the adcoms. If anything, they might just ask me to interview, to ask what I was thinking. 😀

I had my people negotiate a photography agency contract, 200 headshots over three days, and posted each on a leased branch of bostonfashion.com. My parents hired a statistician to analyze the results. The hunter green from Sak's won hands down. Not inclined to believe the plebian vote entirely, I had my ED confirm this decision.

Then I had a freelance graphics firm decide whether to staple, tape, or glue the photo, and how much "negative space" (viz border) to leave around it.

Good luck! It's such a grueling process, people just don't understand how hard it is to be an applicant. 😉

I'm using all of the pics I have with my ex's. I just scribble over their faces and draw an arrow pointing toward me.😉

Oh my god.. could you imagine the look on the adcoms' faces...

"... Does this guy think he is serious???" [ spoken in low adcom type voice] ... all the while trying to find out what the face looks like under the scribbles...

I went to a local photoshop in the mall. They took 6 headshots and I came back in about an hour. I picked out which one I liked the best and then it took them about 10 minutes to print out another 20 wallet sized copies of that shot. I probably won't need 20, but the parents are always saying they want some good pictures of me, so the extras don't go to waste. Total cost- $65, not bad considering how much everything else is costing in the application process.

I haven't taken mine yet, but if you want economical pictures go to WalMart. Most have picture studios and will shoot a nice package for $15.

Of course, they will pitch you on more pics at a much greater cost. The down side is turn time is not instantaneous. Probably about a week.

seriously, you don't need to go all out. i think i only ended up using maybe 4 or 5. i went to ritz camera and they took a digital passport photo . . . and after i approved it, they just printed it out from their little photo printer for $14, i think . . . or maybe it was $7. either way, it wasn't too bad of a deal. i just made sure i brushed my hair, looked okay, and wore an unwrinkled non-t-shirt and that was it.

Photobooth in the mall

I went to a photoshop and had a nice passport picture done and I'll just go to a local photo place and have them scan, and then print up all the copies I need. I paid ten dollars for the two passport (digital) pictures, and the copies should be about .50 apiece.

My big issue is that I could spend alot of money having different originals done; each time I agonize and think that my hair looks weird, my smile is all wrong or something like that. I guess I'm thinking that everything rides on my picture and that they'll look at it and say - she looks (whatever...) and then toss me out.

Anyone else having a hard time getting the 'perfect' picture??? 🙄

I went to a place that does Passport Pictures.
They took a decent picture, printed me up a sheet. Go to CVS or Ritz Camera or something. I think CVS will give you 16 pictures for $8 or $9 or so. You don't need anything larger than a 2" x 2" picture.

Have them save it on disk for you. (Bring you own disk) If you need reprints, it is only like $5 a sheet. Get more now, rather than having to go back and have them made multiple times.

After all was said and done, I need almost 20 pictures. Some schools required 2, and I only had a few left over. I used one for my school ID and one to send to be matched for big sib/little sib.

oh yeah.. And make sure you wear Hunter Green.

there's already a whole thread on this subject

just do a search

I'm thinking a picture of yourself in flagrante delicto with a couple of barnyard animals is a no go. Maybe if you photoshopped out the Batman suit...

Just a suggestion.

Give me a break. What a waste of money it is go have it professionally taken. I simply found a good picture of me with the mountains in the background and cut a 2X2 square out the 4X6 picture. It shows more character than every one and their mother that send in a pretty picture. I don't live my life in a suit and tie; I live it in shorts and a Hawaiian shirt. I want the adcom's to know I am a person and not a tool that will bow down to their preconceived notion of what a doctor is supposed to be. Be confident in whom you are and where you are going and you will accomplish everything you set out too.

yeah there already is a thread on this.

last summer i was doing fieldwork; one of my co-workers took my pic w/a digital camera at the end of the day and we printed them from the lab computer. i had crazy hair, was sweaty and makeup-less and in field clothes, sunburned. when i got to my interviews, i remember seeing the pictures they had of me - when the interviewers had pictures to find us - and the photo had been black/white photocopied so many times, it wasn't even recognizable as a female, let alone me.

😀 don't sweat it or you'll be redirected to the AA thread and promptly told to go out and buy a hunter green cockring. 😉

being a tool and submitting to preconceived notions worked for me. don't knock it 😎

digital camera, crop pictures into 2X2, goto mspaint/photoshop and fit as many as possible into a 4X6 area, submit to walmart.com

total cost: $2.96 for 30 pictures (I only plan on using 15, unless each school asks for 2)

Here's the thread for the search I did of: secondary photos.

I'm not absolutely thrilled with my passport picture but I think it shows my nice smile and it will just have to do. I have thought of having a friend take some snaps with his digital, but I don't know. The threads above say passport vs. professional is really up to you, and in the end isn't the make or break of your application.
