Secondary applications and Fees

Hopefully someone can answer this for me.
When sending in secondary applications, fees,etc. What type of letter should accompany this supplemental information?

i just wrote a letter that said something along the lines of "enclosed is my application fee of X dollars" and included my name , ssn , and aadsas number.
