Secondary Essay complication

I wrote a few essays for a few different schools and had my friends whoa re also applying look over them and got positive feedback with some minor edits. I then sent the essays to my mother who vehemently disliked two of the ones I thought were pretty good. Would anyone be willing to look over the two and tell me their thoughts?
