A goodly number of secondaries have essay questions on them similar to:

"tell us something not on your amcas that you would like the adcom to know about you", or some such. . .

How do you approach a question like this? Is this a full blown "essay" like the one on amcas? Or are we to approach a question like this in a more relaxed sort of way. Almost like answering an interview question?

Use this secondary as a way to flesh out your profile for the Admissions Committee. You might write more about something that you only alluded to in your personal statement (more details about your research or volunteer activities, for instance), or you might write about a completely different interest that you haven't mentioned before.

In either case, do approach it as a full blown essay. It should be crafted every bit as carefully as your original personal statement. Some schools will give you a word, character or page limit; if they don't say anything, try to be concise (one page max).

You might want to look at our website for more info about writing your secondaries.

Good luck!
