I was talking to a friend about secondaries, and he told me that when he applied some schools had letters of recommendation requirements. I am a bit confused, don't we already submit letters via AMCAS? Why do some schools ask for these letters in the secondaries if they can access them from our applications?

And, on this subject, what other sorts of things do secondaries ask for? (supplemental essays aside)

Technically, letters of recommendation are considered part of the secondary application. It is not a part of your primary application; AMCAS in this respect is serving only as a distributor of your letters.

You will note that AMCAS has no requirements of its own about letters; they are purely school-specific. Check the schools you're interested in for their requirements.

Money. Sometimes, a photograph of you.

so I wouldn't have to ask my professors again for the same letters right? I feel like professors hate it if you nag them for letter after letter, one at a time. So, I rather know now and warn them ahead of time if that is the case.

Right.
