Secondary Portal vs. Email

I know there are stories of applicants who have not gotten an email about their II but had it show it up on the portal, but for this cycle, has this happened to anyone? Are there any schools in particular that do this? Just trying to find out the perfect frequency to check my portals without being too neurotic and checking them every minute (the way I check my emails)
