Does anyone know how the secondary review process works generally speaking - I realize it must be slightly different at each school. I ask because some of the overachievers😉 on this site already have interviews at some of the schools I applied to, despite the fact that I was complete earlier or around the same time as them. This makes me slightly nervous.

Is my app doomed to fester in a pile of mediocrity until sometime next year when adcoms decide to send me a very thin envelope after classes have already started? Or..am I just a paranoid and jaded reapplicant..

These people you are seeing with a bunch of interviews can go to only one school. Whatever is left is for us the mediocre to scavenge on.

Seriously though, for MD/PhD this is still early in the cycle. Don't get discouraged by other people's interviews.

I really hope you're right. I've been browsing the MD forums and it seems everyone has an interview lined up.

This is what I suggest. Read through this thread from last year. Go to the last page. See how late people applied, and how they still received interviews. Go see how late interviews were often offerred. Very come out this early.

For md/phd, it seems that they only interview people if they are serious about wanting the candidate, and wouldn't interview if they had their slots already full. Meaning, even if your interview is in february, you'd still be fine - unlike some md programs that are interviewing for waitlist only spots by then.

good luck!

At almost every school that I know of, the MD/PhD interview process is somehwhat latter than the MD-only dates, for a number of reasons.

I think it is still really early. I'm abroad this year, and I'm only going to be able to make it back to the US once or twice to do interviews. Schools expect that, and I suspect this is why I got some invites at this point. If I were you and in the continental US, I would read anything into not getting an invite yet.
