So, I have noticed 2 typos in secondaries that I already submitted... Is this bad??? Is it possible that they will overlook them?? In one typo, I accidentally left out a word, and in the second typo, I referred to the school as a university (but it's a college!).... :scared:

It's fine.

BTW, I don't think anyone is going to hold it against you that you called their college a university instead.

I'm pretty sure the SOP for this is for the admissions committee to come to your house dressed in black robes and holding torches. Once they demand your first born son and you oblige everything is normal again.

It happens. They're not going to disregard the rest of the app. Try having someone else look over the important essays.

Could you imagine this conversation:

Adcom 1: This kid has a 3.9 and a 32 MCAT. But she called our school a university.

Adcom 2: Yes, let's ignore the years of piano teaching, the 100 hours of hospice volunteering, and this list of honors longer than my leg.

Adcom 1: Oh, and look at this sentence, it makes no sense! I think she forgot a word in here! Clearly, she's going to be a dangerous physician!

In seriousness OP, good luck. :luck:

Dumb question: In the US, what is the difference between a "college" and a "university"?

A university is composed of colleges. For example at my school we have:

A college of health sciences, arts and sciences, healthcare policy and business, college of pharmacy, and college of graduate studies.

There is no exact definition but universities are generally composed of smaller schools which may or may not call themselves college. When people say "I went to college," they're usually referring to having a first (bachelor's (4 years) or associate's (2 years)) degree. However, many medical schools still refer to themselves as colleges of medicine and in the U.S. the medical degree is a second degree. So...it varies...

Universities generally offer graduate (second or third) degrees and may or may not offer first degrees.

So, not a dumb question at all!

Haha thanks! I guess I freaked out a little... I usually am not this anxious/neurotic. This whole medical school application process is a beast.

You're doomed. They're going to reject you and call all the other schools about you. Your school principle and your mom will also get notices in their mail shortly.

Relax. People understand. Sure they might have a few laughs at your expense, but you're not going to be the only person with a typo in the thousands of applications that they read. We all have typos, most people just never notice.

Unless your typo turned something into a curse word
I think you'll be fine.

LOL!

"..after which I spent two years serving the ****ing underserved community."

A buddy and I were joking about how funny it would be to insert random derogatory words into a secondary.
