I believe it's actually 5 starts now.
It means you can start an exam 5x. To be clear:
Start Exam try #1: today on accommodated mode (to see answer choices and rationale), close after 30 questions, come back tomorrow and finish = 1 start (1 of 5)
Start Exam try #2: two weeks from now on accommodated mode... = 2nd start (2 of 5)
Start Exam... and so forth.

I use accommodated mode only , which means so long as I do not submit the section, I can check my answers, log out, and then come back as many times as I want on just 1 start.i was looking at buying the section banks and then read you're only allowed 10 "starts". Does that mean I can only log into it 10 times? Looking to do passages at work during down times but I'd have to log in numerous times and pick up where I left off.
There is no scoring scale for the section bank, and you can keep your own timing so easily, that there is no real reason not to do this. If you want to check answers quicker, open and then submit each section once and bam, you have an instant answer key.
Hope this helps. The AAMC was pretty sneaky how they lowered the # of starts for everything they sell a few months ago and didn't say anything anywhere on their site. They are lucky they have a monopoly.

Since the SB has three separate question banks, you will need to use three starts to get through the full SB. With that said, you only use a start when you click "end section" and the only thing you get for ending the section is your percent correct and right/wrong answers. Since you can see the answers and explanations as you go if you want, it's unnecessary to ever end a section, except on the FLs. I did all the AAMC material and never used more than one start per product.
