Hello,

First time poster on the forums (I'm sure you hear this a lot - using this intro because I can't think of another one)

I'd love if someone with experience in the application process, maybe an ad com, to chime in as I have no idea what to do.

Stats:
CA Res
[early academic shortcomings, solid trend in last 2 years]

cGPA: ~3.6*
sGPA ~3.7

*this might be higher with AACOMAS

MCAT score I got back a few days ago:

CP - 127
CARS - 122
BB - 128
PS - 127

Composite: 504

I'd greatly appreciate it if the infamous Goro could chime in. I'm seeking only DO

My main questions:

1) Is it worth applying with this score?
2) Do I need to retake or do I have a decent shot without a retake?

Thanks everyone!

1. Yes you're fine with DO schools.
2. No, you don't. You have a good enough GPA. Just apply broadly and avoid the MCAT heavy schools like CCOM or Touros.

@Goro I'm sorry to bug you, but do you have a moment to chime in?

No rush!

Thanks a bunch

You may very well be auto-screened at a good number of places for that 122. I can't give you a complete list of schools that do this but KCU is one of them that wants no score below 125. (source: http://www.kcumb.edu/admissions/medical-students/requirements/)

Others want no score lower than 124. I would retake. Just work hard on CARS and lightly review the other sections since you seem strong in them.

Your gpa is definitely good enough and your MCAT corresponds to the average of matriculated applicants so you definitely have a shot. It seems you're concerned about your CARS score where it may be of concern at particular schools like KCU, it definitely won't count you out at most other schools. The only other school I know of that screens applicants based on section scores is RVU, but their site explicitly states this only applies to the old exam (for the new exam they only screen out overall scores less than 500). There is literally no other school that I know of that screens based on subscores (at least not to receive a supplemental application).

Apply broadly and you'll be fine!!! I can't recommend LUCOM.

It is starting to get later in the cycle, so if you're applying this cycle, do it now. Of course, having a lot of EC's will help too.
