So I stopped going to class a couple of weeks ago. If I'm going to be overloaded with busy work, then something's got to go. I pick lecture.

Anyway it's very entertaining (and productive, I got my highest grade this semester on yesterday's HIV/Hepatitis exam).

Here's something I found in my lecture slides - the end pictures anyway. I made the composite:

why does she have a nicotine patch on her granny pannties

i decided the show up to class today cuz i happened to be on campus and wanted a study break (and didn't feel like watching this particular lecture later online).

man...there was no one there, hahah, that's the last time i go. I noticed most of my other high scoring friends don't go to class either. It's like an inverse relationship, gotta love it.

Do you guys have lecture ppt's + audio uploaded too? Or are you full on not going/not listening, just curious.

we only had ppt posted, no audio. They do videotape lectures in case you fail so they can sit you down and make you watch them.

Ya, lectures aren't worth it. But what sucks more is that when the profs don't provide their notes/ppt....just to make people attend their lecs. :s

Out of curiosity, do your profs complain about students not attending lecs??

i used to go to the beginning of the lecture, then leave....and sometimes not go at all.
i would hang out in the student lounge and the library reading the lecture notes and slides. i still stayed in the building, since all my friends were there, but very few of them actually were in class!

Haha....funny cuz one of my classmates complained that half the class wouldn't come to lecture and that she should get "some credit" for showing up. Then the professor straight up told her, "Well...I rarely went to class when I was in grad school."

Hahahah.

Yeah we get audio linked with powerpoint, and it comes through as a podcast so I set it to download to my laptop/iPod automatically. Our ppt's are pretty dense, so I use the audio to focus the material, otherwise I'd just read the notes.

I've figured out which classes I can simply read for and which classes I should listen to the lecture. I believe I can't keep this up as I get into P-2/P-3, but seeing your posts above gives me hope. :hardy:

Unfortunately I have to go to class as we have random quizzes all semester long in most of our classes. For most classes attendance is very beneficial and the profs are actually good teachers, but there are a few that are absolute garbage and a huge waste of time.. seriously, I can read the crappy powerpoint myself and I don't need someone to read it to me while being unable to answer any questions that come up. Kinda sucks that profs get paid regardless if they are awesome or suck at teaching. Our school is all about research and the have teaching requirements for all the researches, unfortunately for the students this translates into a semester-long disaster for a select few courses. We have even had profs that give a disclaimer at the beginning of the lecture that they actually don't know anything about the topic and they are being forced to teach it. Those are the classes I don't feel bad about skipping, so long as there aren't any quizzes, etc.

We have to sign in to at least two of our classes where I am, with the others making use of random quizzing. I hate it. I can read just fine, and since that is what you are going to do in class, why should I waste my time?
I cannot believe how badly I want June to be here. Rotate and get out.

Yeah, nicotine goes on the upper body, OE goes down. Also makes it more funny.
I go to all the lectures, but we've got a few that no one shows up for. Immunology this year, Biochem last year. The worst part is when you have friends who grab 4-5 sets of powerpoints. And their friend grabs another set. All of a sudden you're 20 handouts short.😡 We've got one class that does quizzes in every class. We got reamed the other day because people were playing their DS's, going online, and talking during lecture. (We've got a few people that do networked Tetris or Brain Age during lecture.) No quiz points that day.

hahahha DS? Geez...that's pretty ballsy. At least have a laptop so you can pretend to be taking notes.

I remember for commencement at my undergrad I had a DS, was talking to my gf using pictochat and playing Mario.

I'm just not going, we don't get lectures online. We do get ppts, but no audio. I'm still on campus three or four days a week for various responsibilities, but I'm not having anyone read their ppt to me.

Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. Contraception is so incredibly boring. I just had to entertain myself with those bad pictures. I'm a healthcare professional, I can handle a little skin, for Pete's sake.

Most of my class attends, but I think the numbers are starting to decline. Professors sometimes build questions into their lectures, like patient cases, that you don't have the answer to. It's troublesome, but email works to get the answers - just be sure to rotate your questions to different people. LOL

I went to all lectures, and subsequently was not surprised when I graduated ahead of the 100+ "cool kids" in my class who did not.

Almost all of my classmates attended almost all of the lectures... I never skipped class, but I was dead asleep starting with 20th minute of the lecture until 10 minutes before the end of the lecture for at least two classes every day. 😀 Still graduated near the top of my class, and landed a very competitive fellowship, and then my dream job. 🙂

Headed to NYC tomorrow...think I'm gonna load a few lectures onto the ipod to fill the 2 hour bus ride.

I mean, there will be people who go to class all the time and do well, there will be people who never go who will do well. Conversely, there will be no-shows that fail and people who sit in every lecture who won't have a clue (ie lights are on, nobody home).

Not bagging on anyone's personal style...but not everyone gets the A's via the same route. If sitting and listening works for you, then hey...go for it.

I mean, I don't think missing lecture makes me one of the cool kids. Grad school = you know what you're doing/you know what works, just do it...but don't put up a front/think you're better than anyone just by sitting there.
