Today was my first day studying for the MCAT (100% self study). I am using TPR subject review books and TPRH workbook (which has like 300 passages, including discretes).

All I did today was read through two chapters of the bio review book but it just feels....awkward 🙁. I dont feel like I'm really practicing for the test.

My question is:

Should read all of the subject books and then do passages? or should I do the passages from TPRH workbook at the same time as reading the review books?

I'm taking the April 11th test in 11 weeks.
Baseline Diagnostic (AAMC 3) 17 6PS/8VR/3BS
I know baseline MCAT diagnostic scores dont matter too much but I'm an English major so my Biology sucks.
I need to make a 25 on the MCAT to satisfy my conditional acceptance to an early assurance program.

You should intersperse passages with content review. If you read a chapter or two of bio stuff, you should do passages and questions related to that subject that day. Immediate follow up on content review with passages will test you on the material and help you retain it.

Thanks for the help. Believe it or not I just got done studying the BS review book for 5 hrs and discovered what you just said myself, essentially answering my own question. :joyful: At the end of each chapter is 8 practice questions and one passage. I then accompany the chapter with TPRH workbook (which has 2 or 3 passages and another 10 questions on the chapter) it's only day 2 but it is working WELL. Another thing, I take notes throughout reading the chapters because I find that it helps me retain the information. The good news is that I get >50% of the free standing questions correct. The bad news is that I am horrible at BS passages. I am glad that TPR is helping me identify my weaknesses. I recommend TPR by far! I need to work on my timing with reading and answering questions...it is only day 2 of 11 weeks so I have to step it up. I'm slowly but surely finding my own way.

WHEN ARE YOU TAKING YOUR MCAT ? AM USING TRP SELF STUDY TOO...ARE YOU WATCHING THE VIDEOS AFTER READING BOOK ? THE PASSAGE QUESTIONS ON TRP WEBSITE IS SO HARD BUT HELPS TO MAKE THINGS CLEAR...FEEL LIKE THIS TEST IS MORE OF A TEST TAKING SKILL TEST THAN CONTENT

Taking the MCAT April 11th. I am not watching the videos. I find that reading the chapters, taking notes, and doing corresponding passages and questions is plenty helpful for studying.

i feel like its time consuming...when are you planning on taking the test ?

I'm using TPR self study too but I'm not testing till August. I have found it helpful to do one of their diagnostics, and then do the homework for both topic strength and weakness. If I still suck at it, I'll read the book. Personally I hate the videos and I don't want to use them unless I absolutely have to.

Do any of you have a syllabus from Princeton about how many chapters a week you should be covering?
