I am a FNP and in undergrad I took A/P 1yr, Micro 1 sem, and Intro to Org. 1 Sem. I did fine in all those classes as well as my others. I have been out of school 3 years and am planning to go to med school as I just want to know more and to be able to do more.

I don't want to take more science classes, so I am going to do self study for the MCAT and see what my scores are. I bought the EK stuff and I am going to use the AMCAS exams on-line.

Has anyone else taken the MCAT and done well without more science courses?

Am I just crazy to try this? 😕

It's a completely relative question. Some people are intelligent and self - disciplined enough to be able to teach themselves all the material independently, whereas others are the polar opposite. There are people without the classes who do amazing, and those with them that do awful. Don't make yourself a statistic - just work hard. I'm done ranting. LOL

Just a reminder, you'll need the pre-reqs no matter what. 1 yr of Gen Chem, 1 yr of Organic Chem, 1 yr of Physics, and 1 yr of Biology and some places have Math and English requirements as well.

Actually I won't need the prereq's to get into MUSC. I have talked with them and they are not required, just ec's, gpa, mcat, and lor's. Obviously if I score bad then I will take them, retake the mcat, and reapply.

Unless you're absolutely set on that one school, you might want to take them anyways - at least that way if you change your mind on where you want to go, you'll have a lot more options. That's just a thought though.

Hey Carolina - all I have is an opinion, as there is no true answer. You may be crazy... you could be a loony in an institution for people with problems trying to fly. You seem to have healthy fear, which is always a must, as flying would be tempting otherwise.

Anyway, my experience is that if you don't use it, you lose it. Physics, for example, was really fun to relearn and discover holes in my college curriculum at the same time. It's possible, depending on the amount of time/energy you give it. I agree that EK is the best choice for you and I believe that I would not have benefited by taking the classes over with that set in my hand. Classes are an overrated, expensive hoop and I think I could learn much more on my own at my computer, but that's me.

Hey, if you want to tell me why you are going from FNP to MD, I'd love to know. PM me if you feel like answering that. I find it interesting.

Good luck, CG

Caboose.
