When I was in dental school I always heard of people getting decent money for their leftover gold. Does anyone have any names of reputable places to sell dental gold?

Thanks!

That is an interesting quetion that I also would like to have the answer too. A bunch of my extracted teeth have gold restorations that would be cool to melt down and possibly sell. I don't think the gold is of a high purity but it would still be cool to see what its worth.

When I was in DS, around 1980-81, junior year, and very broke, I took everything I owned of any value, any gold jewelry including my high school ring, (very popular in the 1970's!), all my dental gold, used and unused, to Jeweler's Row in Philadelphia. Most of the smaller shops will take your gold jewelry and dental gold; you do not need to melt it down. They weight it as is and give you a price. I'm sure most cities have a jewelery district. Call around, I'm sure you'll find someone who is interested. If you have the small bags the dental gold comes in which states the quality, bring them too. Gold jewelry is stamped with the karat. Good Luck.

Wrong, it is around 75% pure gold or about 21K. I was wondering so I looked up the content used in dental applainances. So it might be worth your while to extract some gold from your old teeth.

Ask a dental lab tech in your area. Those guys usually can recommend a reputable refinery.

I melted all my gold, then brought it to chinatown.

Its funny how ignorant people are on this subject. An ounce of gold goes for 840 an ounce. You dont need much to get a decent return. I'm sure whoever sold it in ChinaTown got totally hosed. I give back a 95% return for your scrap. If anyone is intrested please contact me.

Im sorry to bump an old thread but I am also looking for information on where to sell dental gold. I have multiple crowns and bridges that I have accumulated and figured the metals in them could be worth some money. I am not sure where to begin with selling these dental restorations but I thought some other dentists that have done this before could point me in the right direction. Thanks
