So in the Spring 2013 Semester, it will be my last semester before I start applying next cycle (definitely applying early). I will be taking the MCAT in January. Would it be ok to take Microbiology, Evolution, Genetics, and Health Psychology in the spring together? I was just wondering about the difficulty, along with the MCAT and everything else. Keep in mind I am not a biology major, probably just adding a minor. I will graduate next fall. Thanks!

I think the difficulty of those classes would probably depend on what school you go to and what professors teach them. Microbio and evolution were fairly "easy" classes at my undergrad, while genetics was supposed to be killer because of the professor that teaches it. I've never heard of health psychology, but I'd guess it's doable with that schedule. But I'd definitely ask your classmates and others about the classes and the professors that teach them to get a much better idea. Only you can truly decide if you're willing to take on a specific work load.

Its a lot of work im sure but are they similar to both parts of general biology, being mostly reading or are they more application of ideas? I have not had any upper level biology classes at this point in time.

I would say yes, but it really depends on your professor. At my school, all those classes are pretty easy A's with only a little bit of effort required. At other schools, they may be the classes from the black lagoon.

If you're not sure, ask around and see. But if these classes aren't part of your major and you're taking them for fun, less is more. You want more time for the MCAT.

If you're taking the mcat in january and you're applying that june then why would the difficulty matter? Because it's not like you need to be studying for the mcat after you take it unless you're planning ahead for a retake. Maybe there's something I'm just not getting lol.

I would take whatever ratemyprofessor.com at your school says are the easiest classes that way you don't get any grades that could hurt your gpa and that you wouldn't be able to repair in time for application season.
