Could use some advice on the best time to send in my application. Currently my uGPA is 2.93, SMP gpa is 4.0, and I'm averaging 35+ on my practice mcats 10 weeks out so assume my MCAT is around there. average EC's. Have an older MCAT score of 31 that will be expired at most schools.

I'm considering going back and taking undergrad classes over the summer to get my gpa over a 3.0. Would it be worth it to delay sending my primary until late july/early august to get over that 3.0 hump? Delaying my application would also let me fit in about 200 more clinical volunteering hours.

Thanks!

Please no posts saying I'm not getting in regardless, I know my chances are low, just looking to maximize my chances.

I think you can update your GPA during the course of the application cycle with an updated transcript and also verification can take anywhere from 2-8 weeks. So it's better to apply early, then get that 3.0, then send them the grade!

Thanks! I know I can send in updates but I'm just worried that 2.93 will get me a lot of auto rejects due to 3.0 screens

Yeah the auto rejects are done by a computer screen, so you won't have a chance to update your application. Wait till July 30th.

If you pre-write your secondaries and get them in during the 1st week of August you should be fine.

Hmm, I vote for delaying your application. It's not ideal, but I think the 3.0 gpa is an important cut-off, and the 200 clinical hours will definitely help if you don't have many to begin with (going from 100 to 300 would be big, but going from 800 to 1000 probably won't matter). What's your BCPM gpa? The only thing is submitting your primary around late July will put you probably at a Septemberish verification. This is kind of late for a borderline gpa, but I still think it's better than early application with a 2.93.

The early bird gets all the worms in this game... so with that said... I would apply next June with a 3.0 and more experiences. But if you aren't willing to do that, in order to maximize this cycle, I would go with July 30 bc of the sub 3.0 psychological barrier. Then again, I suppose if your goal is just to get in anywhere, then it can't hurt to apply this July.

Thanks for all the opinions guys, should have mentioned I have a guaranteed interview at the school I'm attending the SMP at. So by applying late I might be hurting my chances at the school I have the best shot at while helping myself everywhere else....

I need 13 credits to get to that 3.0 mark, considering taking some easy online courses to help me get there quicker. anyone have any recommendations? I'm just worried that taking online classes on top of my SMP will cause my marks to suffer.

Thanks! and yeah it actually will be pretty close from going from 100 to 300. BCPM is almost identical to my cGPA, will also take 13 credits to bump that up to a 3.0

Definitely start filling out and have everything done at AMCAS before July 30 (LORs, MCAT, personal statement, 3 most meaningful, activity descriptions and even prewrite your secondaries).

Also, a risky move would be to fill in everything, even your summer grades before they're released and submit with assumed As. They would secure your place in line (I called this year and checked after submitting day 2 but waiting a couple weeks for transcript, but all my grades were already final) and jump right on it once the transcript came. Even if you go with the more conservative wait and see approach definitely have your app tee-d up for submission the day grades are out and get those secondaries prewritten.

Unfortunately, you won't be placed in the queue for verification until your transcript is received https://www.aamc.org/students/applying/amcas/faqs/147928/aftersub_shared_3.7.html

Wouldnt it take 2 months to almost get verified, meaning my secondaries would be in late september?
