I am thinking about retaking the MCAT in August, and I don't know how I will find time to study and complete the secondaries! Would it be bad if I turned in the secondaries after the August exam? Anyone else went through the same situation and got acceptances???

I would definitely submit your amcas now and do all of your secondaries ASAP. I think that waiting until after the MCAT in Aug is too late. There is plenty of time to study for the MCAT and do secondaries at the same time - it may not seem like it now, but it's really not too bad.

I say the schools will not review your app until after your Aug scores are released in October, so I don't see why secondaries would be rushed. Do submit AMCAS ASAP. Do secondaries as you get them and/or ASAP after August MCAT. Some of my secondaries did not even come until late August/September and I submitted my AMCAS the 1st week of August. As long as you get your secondaries in by late August or early September, all of the peices of your file will be set and ready for your August scores to arrive. just my $0.02, I say studying for Aug MCAT is more important than 2ndaries at this point. :luck:

I would get the secondaries in ASAP, that way, all the schools are waiting on are your AUG scores. Your application will also be in front of everybody's that waited to see the AUG scores to submit their secondaries.

Im also retaking in August. I already submitted my AMCAS and will do the secondaries ASAP. I do have the advantage of reusing all my essays from last year so I'll probably breeze through all the secondaries for the schools I applied to last year. But I agree with the previous posts -get the application in soon so that all thats left is your August scores.

I'm afraid that if I use up some time for the secondaries, I won't have as much time to study for the MCAT. That might adversely affect my score. What to do...what to do........?

Get things done as early as possible -- things get looked at in order, and someone who has their secondary complete first when the MCAT score hits gets looked at before someone whose secondary is timed to show up with the MCAT score.
As for how to accomplish this -- It's all about good time management, unfortunately -- no good secrets. It's a skill that will come in handy once you get to med school.

If you are retaking and you didn't check the box then your app is not held up...

It seems like the secondaries take up more money than time, or maybe I'm just not spending enough time on them as I should. Just do a little each day and you should be fine.

Did you submit your April score? If it was decent enough, I would definitely get the secondaries in ASAP. You never know.

I submitted my secondaries after I took the august mcat. If I were you i would just focus on the mcat as long as your primary is submitted. The majority(all but 1 out of 18 i applied to) wont even act on your app until your scores come out. That window between the test and the release of the scores is perfect for secondaries. Ive said this before, but here goes: dont underestimate how long your school takes to send lor's as well as how long schools take to receive and verify your letters. It can throw a wrench in the works if you dont stay on top of things after you take the mcat.

EDIT: i somehow missed the fact you already have a score. I would make the decision based on how good your score was the first time. If you think you can get a few interviews with the score you have now then by all means submit those secondaries.

That's my plan... I figure I may get lucky at a few schools like U of Chicago, Northwestern, and U of Michigan. Then when my August MCAT comes out I can update them. (Since I didn't check the box I'm assuming they won't know I retook the test). Then I can go from there and make my decision.
