I have received several med school acceptances, but I have not yet chosen a medical school. With each acceptance notice, the school requests an official copy of all transcripts prior to matriculation. Some schools make this sound more urgent than others. I am not currently taking any classes, so the request seems to be more about the schools wanting to have official documents on file rather than learn new information (i.e. new grades).

My question is, should I wait until I make a final decision about which med school to attend to start having official transcripts sent or should I just send them everywhere now? How are others holding more than one acceptance handling this?

Thanks!

Does your undergraduate institution charge to send transcripts?

No, it's free. So maybe I should just sent them then. I guess I was just wondering what others are doing. I want to do whatever the normal thing is.

Or maybe I should read each acceptance letter very carefully and do whatever it says. Yup, that's probably the thing to do.

Thanks for your subtle yet clutch help in reasoning this out, Research.

Since many acceptees are still in school, the med schools don't expect a final transcript until the months immediately before matriculation, to provide proof of graduation, and/or proof of completion of the prerequisites for that school. I see no reason to rush unless the letter asks you to comply immediately.

Good point. I completely forgot the point of sending transcripts is to verify you actually graduated. Since I graduated last year and my school doesn't charge for transcripts, I've just been sending them out immediately.

I would have sent them out immediately following my acceptance had I lived in the same town as two of my schools (I have to request my transcripts in person, because otherwise they won't include a transfer document detailing what I got for my AP/IB credits). As it is, I'm just trying to schedule one of my days up to make the trip and get my transcripts mailed.
