Hey, everyone!

I was wondering, do you think it is ok/worth it to send an update letter to a particular school after they have accepted you? That is, would this be taken into consideration for any scholarships or other financial aid?

Sounds dumb.. For lack of a better word.

What makes you so special compared to the countless other accepted applicants that all did the same ECs and other characteristics that the ADCOMs see all day long? They would have offered scholarships a while ago. The really hot potential applicants might end up getting scooped up early through early acceptance programs.

Otherwise, unless you just discovered a cure for a serious cure or raised millions of dollars for a charity, it's unlikely you will sway the, toward giving you anything.

Enjoy the acceptance. Now is your opportunity to live your life the way you want to live it, before you give your life up in medical school. Don't waste your valuable time by trying to get something that's just incredibly unlikely.

So unless you can tell them what makes you so unique and special, I would take the acceptance and move onto the next chapter,

Hmmm... If you have the time/material to write a substantial update letter, maybe. I mean whats the worse that can happen. At least you will stop wondering what if. I honestly think it would not make any difference but I know they won't take away your acceptance because of it.

I was told by an adcom to update the school's scholarship committee post acceptance. If it is something of note (authorship, fall grades, etc) then I think it would be a good idea to call the school's admissions office and find out.

Do you have multiple acceptances? I've heard of accepted people updating their schools about the multiple offers and scholarships they've received in order to provoke programs into offering more aid. It worked for a few of them.
