Hi guys,

I was wondering if you thought I should send an update to my schools that I applied to regarding my research from my undergrad years. Here's the breakdown:
-Began project during my junior year (2011)
-Graduated in 2013 and been working outside of the field ever since
-Project research has been continued by my PI + post-doc since I graduated
-Project/manuscript completed this month (2016) and am a contributing author
-Manuscript sent to journal for review

I understand that it's not a huge deal until a manuscript is actually accepted (due to the fact that at that point, you can state exactly what journal you'll be getting published in). However, this project represents the main research that I did during my undergrad years, and it has taken a long time for it to finally come to completion (with the help of many people). This would be my first publication, and I'd love to finally have something more concrete to share with schools than "I did research."

I was thinking that if I do send this update, I'll word it by saying something like... "the manuscript has been submitted to _______ journal. Although where the research will eventually be published is not yet known, I wanted to send an update on how the project has finally come close to completion pending review."

Or something like that... any ideas?

Thanks!

So you haven't contributed in3 years? Did you talk about it on your Secondary? Did they ask about it in your interviews? Anyway I vote a big NO , at least at this point.

About 2 years. So I was involved for the first half of the project (there were some challenges along the way that slowed it down quite a bit - like any bio research). Yes I talked about it in my secondaries, and my interviewers asked me about it. One school actually wanted to know pretty specific details.

Thank you for your opinion!

Well if you can remember the interviewer from the school that asked specifically you can probably update him/her.(If they accept updates). Good luck!
